NASL Reunion GameSJ Earthquakes

 RJ Castro, August 2, 2009,

San Jose Earthquakes via Buckshaw Stadium had an event which brought back a sense of pride, tradition, and passion in the Sunday afternoon performance.  Those in attendance at Buckshaw stadium saw the fight and determination that has been a mainstay in San Jose Earthquakes history.  An outstanding performance which could not have been a more fitting ending to what was a great weekend for San Jose Earthquakes soccer in honoring the pioneers of San Jose Earthquakes Soccer at halftime.  Capturing the first Heritage Cup by beating the Seattle Sounders with a convincing 4-0 victory brought back an enthusiastic crowd, Goals, and memories of what San Jose Earthquakes soccer once was and what can once again be in the future.

ESPN Soccer.net has written a good match report about the Sunday high noon challenge for the Heritage Cup.  There are also other websites throughout the internet that will give you a great recap of the game along with interviews of players.  Read the team notes via the Earthquakes media press release in the article titled Earthquakes Earn Convincing 4-0 Win Over Seattle Sounders FC.

The highlight of the weekend came at halftime with the recognition of former players and staff in the 35th Year Anniversary of the forming of the San Jose Earthquakes in 1974.  For a great article and history of San Jose Earthquakes soccer read Gary Singh's article titled Summer Shakers.  You'll have to check your soccer pulse if you were not excited about the article and the culmination of an event in San Jose Soccer that blended the past, the present and the future of Earthquake's soccer in San Jose.

As the article has so eloquently expressed all of our sentiments about the history, heritage, tradition and passion for the game of soccer in the San Jose Earthquakes. The Local Soccer Scene was graced with that tradition of hard played and fun times at the Earthquakes stadium.

Being on the field with the players of the past like Johnny Moore, Paul Child, Mike Hewitt, Mark Demling, Easy Perez, Laurie Calloway, Godfrey Ingram, Davie Kemp just to name a few gave every child of the 70's a glimpse of what was great to be a soccer resident in the city of San Jose.

If the Earthquakes need to recognize their past to put the passion and fight they put into this game than perhaps we should celebrate our great history, tradition, and legacy every weekend.  It would be worth every penny to continue the winning attitude and festive atmosphere we as the Local Soccer Scene felt in Santa Clara's Buckshaw Stadium. We hope that with a new stadium the tradtion will continue no matter the season, location or era.
